Preparing for the unexpected

1. Check your family's religion or sect in advance.
Find out the phone number of your family's temple (shrine/church) in advance. If you do not have a supporter of a Buddhist temple with your family, we can also provide introductions.
2. Prepare photos in advance.
You will need photos to display on the altar. It is recommended that you prepare several photos as clear as possible.

3. Prepare a list of people to inform in advance.
It would be advisable to create a contact list of people to inform in case of critical condition, or about the wake and funeral.
4. Estimate the number of attendees for general condolences and funeral guests.
A rough estimate can be based on the combined social circles of the deceased and their family. This can also be helpful in preparing thank-you letters and return gifts.

5. Decide on the location for the remains in advance.
If a person passes away in a hospital, it is advisable to decide on the location for the remains (such as at home or at a funeral hall) in advance. Since this can often be a confusing decision, it is important to make this decision ahead of time.
